Full-bodied and dense with silky tannin as well as a lush texture, this is the quintessential bistro, brasserie, or trattoria red to drink with gusto, exuberance, and joy.
It's great to return to an excellent honest-tasting fruit-driven wine that has very good balance, an appetizing texture thanks to fine-grained tannins and light spicy elements to complement the pure cherry and berry core. It's the kind of wine that doesn't get tiring, and will be ideal to stock up on.
The non vintage Old Vine Red Lot 60 represents 90,000 cases, and is a blend of four vintages, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. There is a lot of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah as well as some more obscure grapes in this bistro styled, chunky, fleshy, meaty, deep ruby colored wine. Copious notes of pepper, charcuterie, black cherries and black currants are also found in this spicy, soft, round crowd pleaser.
Antonio Galloni - Vinous: 88 Points
Marietta's NV Old Vine Red Lot 62 is one of the very best California wines readers will find for the money. Zinfandel plays the leading role in a hearty, racy red bursting at the seams with flavor. Sweet red cherries, flowers, cedar and new leather add the final notes of complexity.
